BRUSK got shortlisted for the Architectuur Prijs Vlaanderen 2026
We are very happy and proud to share the news that our project BRUSK in Bruges was shortlisted for the Architectuur Prijs Vlaanderen 2026 (Flemish Architecture Award 2026)!

It was nominated in the category ‘encounter’ – a characteristic that perfectly describes the basis of the design. The two generous exhibition spaces are deliberately constructed at a raised level and separated from each other by a public passageway, creating an open, transparent and freely accessible ground level. The building does not stop pedestrians in their tracks: they can move right through the transparent ground level via the public gallery. This ground level is handed over in its entirety to the city, its inhabitants and its visitors. Rather than a building, BRUSK functions as a square – one that freely stimulates opportunities and encounters between art and the public.

BRUSK also opens out onto a new park (planned for 2030), forming a link between the city and the new green lung. Set in a dense historical context, neighbouring monuments played a fundamental role in the design. Two visual axes – towards the Belfry on one side and the Church of our Lady on the other side – imbue the design with a deep sense of urban connectivity. The exterior of BRUSK is completely covered in textured electricity generating glass ‘scales’, which provide the building with sustainable energy.

Along with other shortlisted projects, you can visit BRUSK during the Dag van de Architectuur (Day of Architecture) on June 7. Later that night the winner of the award will be announced. Both events are organised by the Flemish Architecture Institute.
