Paul Robbrecht – co-founder of Robbrecht en Daem – made a trip to Egypt in early 2023. He brought back sketches and photographs that testify to his surprise at the 'discovery of the known'. In the exhibition ‘Het verlangen naar Egypte. Paul Robbrecht en La Description de l’Egypte’ at Vandenhove, his impressions of the fusion of elemental architectural forms with a graceful, highly refined imagery, dialogue with a wide selection of prints from the monumental series 'La Description de l'Egypte' (1809). These prints - the reflection of Napoleon Bonaparte's scientific-artistic Egypt expedition – are part of the collection of the Ghent University Library.
