BRUSK: New exhibition hall for Bruges
We are pleased and honoured to inform you that Robbrecht en Daem architecten, together with Olivier Salens architecten, has won the competition to design the new exhibition hall BRUSK in the historic city center of Bruges, in collaboration with developer CIT Red.

Right next to the Groeningemuseum, this new building contains two large exhibition halls which are elevated by one level and separated by a public passage – the Scala Grande – creating a very open, transparent and freely accessible ground floor. The entire ground level is thus handed back to the city, its residents and its visitors. Different from most contemporary museums, these new exhibition rooms let much daylight in. Light from the north enters the building exactly like the conditions in a typical artist’s studio. The great height of the halls recalls the scale of historical exhibition spaces such as a church or cathedral.
BRUSK is an urban gesture. More than a building, this project behaves like a square – freely and openly stimulating chances for and encounters between arts and audience. Along with our team, we look forward to working with the City of Bruges and Musea Brugge.
